Hi,
The ‘emacs’ package seems to be broken, I can reproduce this with
Toggle snippet (5 lines)guix time-machine --commit=87b4b0e4385149b40ee87ae2d57712679452746b -- \ environment --pure --ad-hoc emacs -- emacs --version/gnu/store/as4fpcyq6qjngp6433w68v09x5znhh10-profile/bin/emacs: error while loading shared libraries: libm17n-core.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
The latest “good” commit I know of isee86a035c79b838e3fdabbdb88dc30906a83cc30 (still bisecting).

I can't:

As for the output of ldd:
libm17n-core.so.0 => /gnu/store/pdwv15zmghndkqy5473v1hxgibmvzvlz-m17n-lib-1.8.0/lib/libm17n-core.so.0

That'd be big if true, we've had the wip-emacs merge between then andnow and while that caused a lot of problems to many, it should stillopen up.
Now, perhaps there's a case to be made, that it's in fact broken onanother architecture or when not using substitutes (it is notreproducible after all), but atm we're lacking a bit of necessary infohere.

I wondered if this could be a missed reference issue due to grafting(whereby a recent ‘guix gc’ would have deleted m17n-lib from the storebecause the grafted Emacs didn’t have a visible reference to it) butthat doesn’t seem to be the case (on x86_64-linux):

Does passing ‘--no-grafts’ to ‘environment’ make a difference for you?

I am now bisecting commit 5866fa558b68b3e0213b9eef93d115e6e38dcc2a, Idon’t think it should be related to the changes to the‘emacs-build-system’.

I am on x86_64 with substitutes enabled on a foreign distro (NixOS).

This doesn’t seem to help either, and as I wrote above, ldd doesn’t listany libraries for Emacs. Interestingly, this also seems to be the casewith ‘emacs-native-comp’ from the flatwatson channel[1], but the binaryworks fine (I am using it to write this email).

The "emacs" command is just a wrapper, you'll have to resolve thecorrect .emacs-real (in this case .emacs-27.2-real).

As before, /bin/emacs is just a shell script, it can't work with ldd :(

Running ldd on the real binary yields this.

When bisecting commit 76b6c61609fd8352ce01059307cf1aec85b8d0df, the‘graphviz’ package, which ‘emacs’ depends on, fails to build.

I'm not sure about graphviz on that particular commit, but it seems tobuild on master and CI. The last successful build of graphviz andemacs was on May 1st after the merge of wip-ungrafting. [1]

Hi,
Checking with a `guix build emacs` built from master:
Toggle snippet (5 lines)$ ldd /gnu/store/lnwgc4ww47vkq2wv2ay3rdm0ppnmgyfy-emacs-27.2/bin/.emacs-27.2-real | grep libm17n libm17n-core.so.0 => /gnu/store/pdwv15zmghndkqy5473v1hxgibmvzvlz-m17n-lib-1.8.0/lib/libm17n-core.so.0 (0x00007faa39623000) libm17n-flt.so.0 => /gnu/store/pdwv15zmghndkqy5473v1hxgibmvzvlz-m17n-lib-1.8.0/lib/libm17n-flt.so.0 (0x00007faa39617000)
So it seems at least on current master things are good?
If you cannot reproduce this issue on current master, I suggest we closeit.

Using the same commit you were using last,652a03888e1609bd1a687326760436867fe2abb7, I can obtain the same Emacs(same store hash):
$ guix time-machine --commit=652a03888e1609bd1a687326760436867fe2abb7 -- environment --ad-hoc emacs[env]$ which emacs/gnu/store/gbzd8hc6360vaxmk2xh5bzkx7dkkwl8q-profile/bin/emacs
Have you tried it in a container, like so:
$ guix time-machine --commit=652a03888e1609bd1a687326760436867fe2abb7 \ -- environment -C --ad-hoc emacs -- emacs --version
to ensure there are no contaminants from your host.
Perhaps NixOS, being similar to Guix, is somehow interfering?

Hum, weird because I get this:
/gnu/store/rr2cnfygjh2bkv7cysva5i8h0nil6gla-guix-package-cache.drv
and you get:/gnu/store/k4ih7z9q04nghfvw4by007z8ijskghkn-guix-package-cache.drv.
Do you have a custom channel file? Usually, this kind of error comefrom a conflict between the packages from upstream (commit 652a03888)and local packages.
All the best,simon
